Credit and credit cards, explained.
Card Path Guide is an independent educational website that explains how credit scores, credit cards and credit building work, in plain English and without hype.
Why this site exists
Credit shapes the rates you pay on cards, cars and homes, yet most people are never taught how it works. Much of what you find online is either too technical or built to push you toward a product. We want to be the opposite: a clear, honest place to learn how credit works and what your options are at each stage, whether you are starting from scratch, rebuilding, or simply trying to understand your score.
What you will find here
- Credit score guides: what a good score is, how scores are calculated and how to check yours.
- Building and repairing credit: practical steps for beginners and for people rebuilding.
- Credit cards by credit profile: how to think about cards if you have no credit, fair credit or good credit.
- Debt and balance transfers: how interest works and ways to pay debt down.
- Calculators and tools: simple tools to see how your choices affect your numbers.
Who is behind the site
I’m Marc, the person who researches, writes and edits Card Path Guide. I am based in Spain and write for readers in the United States, so I base every guide on primary U.S. sources, such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the scoring companies’ own publications and the providers’ official terms, rather than on opinion. I am not a financial advisor, lender or credit counselor, and the content here is educational and not personal advice.
How we work
Our commitments are simple: we aim to be accurate, to show our sources, to update our pages when things change, and to be open about how the site makes money. You can read the details in our Editorial Policy and Methodology and our Advertising and Affiliate Disclosure.

What we cannot help with
We are an educational website and cannot give personalized financial advice, review your credit report, help you dispute items or recommend what you should do in your specific situation. For personal guidance, consider a nonprofit credit counselor, for example through the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (nfcc.org), or a licensed professional. If you have a problem with a lender, credit bureau or other provider, you can also submit a complaint to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at consumerfinance.gov/complaint.
A note on privacy
Please do not send sensitive information such as your Social Security number, account numbers or full credit reports. If you contact us, we will use your details only to reply, as explained in our Privacy Policy.
